Surrounding Areas

The pearly white beaches and the turquoise waters of Armona, Barreta and Culatra are unforgettable; a true piece of the Caribbean in Portugal.

A 10 minutes’ drive from Olhão, a 15 minutes’ drive from the airport of Faro, or a less than 2 hours’ drive from Seville, will take you to ‘B&B Alma do Campo’.

Olhão is well known for its iconic fish, meat and produce market and its picturesque restaurants along the promenade. Everything under the sun, from fish and steak to a simple, but delicious, pizza can be enjoyed here in this interesting town. It is also the place from where you can start your tour over the Ria Formosa, or where you can take a ferry to one of the islands along the coast. The pearly white beaches and the turquoise waters of Armona, Barreta and Culatra are unforgettable; a true piece of the Caribbean in Portugal. Armona offers several restaurants and ‘Lanacosta’ is one of them, a restaurant we regularly frequent to enjoy the delicious food, tropical location and friendly service.

Close to Olhão, a few kilometres to the East you will find Fuzeta, an authentic Portuguese fishermen’s village, which has not yet been discovered by mass tourism. It offers a long beach along the Ria Formosa, and for a few Euros a little water taxi will happily take you to the inhabited Ilha de Fuzeta where you can enjoy the sun and the sea. Definitely worth visiting.

About half an hour to the East, you will encounter the charming town of Tavira, located at the delta of the Gilão river which forms the start of the Ria Formosa. Browse through the many little boutiques offered by the little streets of Tavira before sitting down at one of the many terraces to watch the people go by whilst enjoying a bika picana (an espresso with a dash of milk). Or relish one of the beautiful sunsets whilst sipping from a glass of delightful Portuguese wine. Of course, since you are in Portugal, you will find enough worthy restaurants where you can appreciate lovely meals. If you drive to the areas west of Faro, you will find the more touristic areas such as Vilamoura, Portimao and the famous golf courses of Quinta do Lago and Vale de Lobo. However, the Eastern part of the Algarve also offers a decent number of golf courses, less well known and maybe not as prestigious as the ones mentioned above, but they will definitely not disappoint.

Please feel free to contact us for more information about the Algarve.
